Attemp to murder case filed on hero of farmers’ protests

New Delhi: During a farmers’ protest in Ambala, Haryana, the police has registered a case of attempt to murder on the man who closed the water cannon. This young man had stopped him by climbing on a police car that used to shower water on farmers in the cold.

After the video was widely shared, the young man was seen as a hero on social media. 26-year-old Navdeep Singh on Wednesday marched on a water cannon during a farmers’ protest amidst the ongoing cold wave in North India as police were trying to block his efforts.

The son of a farmer body leader Jai Singh, Navdeep has been charged with attempted murder, which carries a maximum fine for life imprisonment, riots and violation of COVID-19 rules.

Navdeep told The Times of India newspaper, “After my studies, I started farming with my father who is a farmer leader. I have never been involved in any illegal activity and the courage to climb on the vehicle and turn off the tap gave me the commitment of the protesting farmers because it was hurting them. “

He said, “We were demanding a route to Delhi protesting peacefully but the police blocked our route. We have every right to question and oppose the government if any anti-people law is passed. “
