As per the officials, Mumbai’s dabbawalas and staff of foreign consulates and high commissions have been granted permission to travel in local trains.
Till now, local trains are being run only for important services staff.
Dabbawalas are the popular lunch-box carriers that operate from Mumbai. They were on a six-month hiatus and demanded local trains to allow them to carry on with their tiffin services.
Due to the coronavirus lockdown, the Dabbawalas carried on with their services by going on cycles to the south Mumbai area.
Granting them access to local train services in Mumbai will help them carry on with their delivery of tiffins to office-goers on a full-fledged scale.
Hence, they have shared how delighted they feel in the unlock phase to be able to carry on with their business activities.
More than 5,000 dabbawalas run the tiffin delivery business in the city of Mumbai.
