As per the Bombay Natural History Society, one can find at least 77 new species of butterflies in a forest of Matheran hill station near Mumbai.
Thus, this new addition makes the total count of butterflies in the Matheran forest to 140.
Matheran’s area is over 214.73 sq km and is located about 80 km from Mumbai, capital of Maharashtra.
The study was conducted for over 8 years and the NGO has found 77 new species of butterflies in Matheran.
As per reports, it is nearly after 125 years that such a research was organized to understand and find out the flying beautiful species of Matheran.
