DIC at SPA-New Delhi organized an ALL INDIA DIC MEET 2019 on 11th and 12th April, 2019 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), Janpath, Windsor Place, New Delhi (BHIM HALL). The meet was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Sanjukkta Bhaduri, DIC coordinator and Dean (Research) SPA New Delhi.

The agenda of the Meet was to:

  • Share knowledge about Innovation, Entrepreneurships and Marketing.
  • Enhance interdisciplinary design focusing on innovation and creativity.
  • Display and Exhibit innovative projects/ products to endorse innovation culture.
  • Collaborate amongst Industry, Academia, Government Institutions, Research laboratories, etc. for Marketing / Outreach of innovated products

The Chief guest of the event was Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog and Shri R. Subrahmanyam, IAS, Secretary, MHRD was the Guest of Honour who lit the lamp along with Dr. N. Saravana Kumar, IAS, Joint Secretary (ICC/P), MHRD, Dr P.S.N Rao, Director SPA Delhi and Dr Sanjukkta Bhaduri. The Meet was organized under the aegis of MHRD with support from Dr. N. Saravana Kumar, Dr. Shakila T. Shamsu OSD (NET), A.K. Chattopadhyay US, and Consultants Ashish Chauhan and Nitish Kumar.

The Meet was attended by more than 500 people in all including Ministries, Educational institutes, various Government organizations including Development Authorities, Urban Local Bodies, Public Sector Undertakings, Research institutions & Private organizations including Business Houses, Corporates, Consulting Organizations and Industry Associations. DIC hubs and spokes from all across the country gathered on a single platform in the meet and showcased their innovative projects and prototypes in the exhibition which continued both the days including DIC’s at various SPA’s, IIT’s, IIIT’s, IIM’s and other institutes from the 22 DIC hubs and their respective spokes institutes totaling to 90 institutions to showcase the wide spectrum of innovative projects that are being furnished under the DIC scheme

An Exhibition was set up displaying products of various DICs on various themes i.e. M.S.M.E, Agriculture and Animal husbandry, Lifestyle, Public order, safety and Mobility, Ergonomics and Health, Energy, Water and Waste, Construction and Buildings, Education and Information and Urban development.

There was a launch of the All India and SPA DIC Brochure, All India DIC and SPA Web Portal National Design Innovation Network (NDIN) and Open Design School (ODS) over the two days.

There were following Panel Discussions

  1. UDAAN –on Successful DIC Startups
  2. SRIJAAN – on Design and Innovation
  3. VIPAANAN- on Entrepreneurship and Incubation
  4. IPR and Technology Licensing
  5. MANTHAN- on Achievements of and Challenges faced by the DIC Hubs and Spokes

The eminent speakers included successful Startups from DIC, Professors from various IITs i.e. IIT Delhi, Mumbai, BHU, Kanpur, Bhubaneswar, Roorkee, Hyderabad, Guwahati and University of Delhi, IISC Bangalore, Central Universities from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Kashmir, Meghalaya and Rajasthan.  Innovation Consultants, Founders of Consulting Organizations, Senior Patent Attorneys, CMD, NRDC and others discussed in detail about the journey an innovator takes from conception to execution. The event included informative session about the successful startups from various institutes who shared with us the entire experience of taking just a raw idea and developing it to have a successful business model. There are challenges pertaining to funds, productive value of design and realization of the idea to marketable products that are beneficial and affordable to the common masses.

The MEET also synergized with other MHRD missions i.e. Atal Tinkering Labs and IIC. A workshop was organized for the students of various schools associated with Atal Tinkering Labs where students participated in interesting activities.

The two day event concluded with a Road map or a way forward to take the initiative of DIC further and creating more avenues of promoting and enhancing an ecosystem in educational institutions conducive of innovative thinking for the youth of the country.
