Thea whole nation rather whole world was astonished (except of course China who celebrated it) at the statement of our  Prime Minister when after all party meeting on China issue he said “Na wahan koi hamari seema men ghus aya hai na koi ghusa hai aur na hi hamari koi post kisi dusre ke qabze men hai (No one has entered our territory and neither any of our military post is occupied by any country “ ).It was total denial of ministry of external affairs statement issued just two days before this meeting which says that foreign minister S Jaisahankar spoke his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi —-The Chinses side sought to erect a structure in Golwan Valley on our side of LAC which became source of dispute, the Chinese side took premeditated and planned action that was directly responsible for the resulting violence and casualties. It reflected an intent to change the facts on ground in violation of all our agreements to not change the status quo “ The natural question is that in light of previous statement of his own external affairs ministry why the PM choose to deny the facts. May be to satisfy the ultranationalist ego of his blind followers he choose to issue this denial but it has greatly damage our position in the international community Chinese were quick to tweet “His (Modi’s) statement illustrates that the incidents were happened in our (Chinese) territory “tweeted one Shen Shiwei.

Prime Ministers statement has shocked our veterans also”I served my country through  Indian army for four decades. For what? just one goal to defend territorial integrity, borders and sovereignty of India.I am shattered to see India quietly accepting China changing status of LAC in eastern Ladakh, what a sad day for every soldier like me” tweeted Lt. General (Retd.) Rameshwar Roy. Another veteran Lt General (retd)  JS Panang is astonished that why our soldiers were sent unarmed and got killed including a colonel rank commanding officer. He said “for the first time in the history of Indian army a commanding officer has been clubbed to death. This is a planned simple murder by Chinese troops. Our soldiers would not have gone unarmed to Chinese posts there was definitely a political direction” Is not this the constitutional right of every Indian to know the truth that why soldiers were sent without arms to be got mercilessly killed. Questions are also being raised why Bihar regiment was deployed there and why Gorka, Kumaon or Dogra regiment not deployed whose soldiers are according to their upbringing more suitable for the weather and geographical condition of that area. Prime Minister’s tweet appreciating the bravery of Biharis gave fuel to the speculations that keeping in mind the Bihar assembly elections this was done. It must be a coincidence no doubt but PM should have choose better words and should have appreciated the bravery and valour of Indian soldiers rather than confining to a state which is shortly going to elect a new assembly.

However as a second thought and as a damage control exercise another statement was issued from PMO saying PM’s statement was reflective of an earlier border situation and that mischievous spin given to his remark at the meet “.But the contradictory statements from highest level on intrusion of PLA in our territory is the clear sign that the government wants to hide the real position of intrusion from people but the million dollar question remains if there was no intrusion then why there was talk between two foreign ministers and why our brave hearts were brutally killed. This habit of bravado and hiding the facts is mischievous exercise to misguide and misinform the people. We as a citizen of a constitutional democracy have every right to know what the real position at Galwan Pangong Tso and Doklam is. We should also know what is restoration of status quo that India wants if there is no intrusion.

While the statement issued by PMO may have helped in clarifying the real position but Chinese will definitely use his previous statement not only before international community and fora but even during negotiation between the two countries. Our position may get eroded as other countries may presume that India is ready to concede land to China. Domestically too already sore relations between opposition specially with Congress and ruling party will be further tense because it is clear the government is less than transparent and wants to hide more than it shows. The statement issued by PMO clarifying PM’s statement may have serve purpose domestically however the trust level between ruling party and opposition parties is so high and nothing is being done by ruling party to take opposition on board rather unsubstantiated highly irresponsible and mischievous allegations by ruling party on principal opposition leaders like taking money from China are adding fuel to fire. Surely there must be national consensus on China issue but responsibility of making this consensus lies on ruling party which definitely is failing in its responsibility. On the other China will keep (mis) using Mr Modi’s previous statement at international level which Indian diplomats will find difficult to clarify.
