Gwalior. During a survey by Smart City Corporation officials, it was found that seventy-four places in the city are not safe for women and children. These areas are witness to molestation, harassment and such incidents on the eve, especially after sunset. The survey also mentions that it is mainly the lack of streetlights that hugs criminals, leading to such incidents. The survey was conducted to find out whether such incidents are a recurring feature and what needs to be done to make the city safe for women and children.
During the survey it was found that fifteen out of seventy four places remain dark at night and especially women and children are hesitant to go out even if they want to buy some essential goods. The most affected areas are AB Road, Sagar Tal Road, Pinto Park, Airport Road, Outer Circle Road and NH Road.
Speaking to media persons, Smart City Corporation CEO Maheep Tejaswi said that the survey report and the measures to be taken to improve the situation have been submitted to the municipal corporation for appropriate action. He said that the corporation would soon take appropriate steps to rectify the situation. However, it is learned that even after four months of submitting the report, the corporation officials have failed to take any action so far.
Another problem that came up during the survey was the lack of police patrolling in these areas. This problem has not been highlighted due to the very small number of cases being reported due to social stigma and other barriers. Police need to improve monitoring and response times in these areas.
